Use Cases and Examples

 

1.) Calculate end date excluding public holidays and weekends

Example:

A task has an estimated duration of 10 days to complete. You set the start date to Monday. The automation will automatically set the end date (deadline) to Friday of the following week and put it in your end date column. 

Now imagine Wednesday in the second week is a public holiday. The automation will set the end date to Monday in 2 weeks – why? – An end date can never be on public holidays or on weekends – how cool is that?

In our example with public holiday on Wednesday:

Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa Su Mo -> workday number 10 is on Monday in 2 weeks

 

Use this automation/integration:

When column changes (any column) calculate end date from start date with workdays considering public holidays for location and update end date

Same automation, but with STATUS as trigger:

When status changes to somethingcalculate end date from start date with workdays considering public holidays for location and update end date

2.) Calculate start date excluding public holidays and weekends

Example:

Same as the first automation, but in the other direction. You set the end date (deadline) and the automation will set the start date for you.

A task has an estimated duration of 10 days to complete. You set the end date (deadline) to Monday. The automation will calculate the start date to Monday two weeks earlier and update your start date column. If there’s a local public holiday within this time, it will automatically add another day and set the start date to Friday the week before that.

With this automation, you’ll never start a task too late again.

 

Use this automation/integration:

When column changes (any column) calculate start date from end date with workdays considering public holidays for location and update start date

Same automation but with STATUS as trigger:

When status changes to something calculate start date from end date with workdays considering public holidays for location and update start date

3.) Calculate end/start date and update timeline

Example:

Same as the first two automations, but this time it will update a timeline column instead of date columns.

When column changes (any column) calculate the end/start date with workdays considering public holidays for location and update timeline

4.) Calculate workdays between two date columns

Example:

A project has a fixed start date and a deadline. The automation will calculate the net workdays between these two dates – excluding weekends and your local public holidays.

 

Use this automation/integration:

When column changes (any column) calculate workdays between start date and end date considering public holidays for location and update workdays (numbers column)

Same automation, but with STATUS as trigger:

When status changes to something calculate workdays between start date and end date considering public holidays for location and update workdays (numbers column)

5.) BONUS : Update timeline column based on two date columns (start/end)

Example:

You have a start date column and an end date column (deadline) to manage tasks or projects.

If you want to use resource management with workload widgets, a timeline column is mandatory, so you need to sync these three columns. This is where the automation comes in.

It will update your timeline, as soon as you change your start date or end date column.
